Year 10 drama students at Ely College performed a piece of physical theatre to pay homage to women who were granted the right to vote 100 years ago in 1918.

This year marks the centenary of the moment 8.4 million British women were granted the right to vote, giving them an opportunity to be heard, for the first time.

Students were keen to explore the history of the movement further and shared their thoughts with fellow students.

In the performance they juxtaposed attitudes from the early 20th century with the outlooks on suffrage young people have today.

The students performed a scene from their hard-hitting play during every house assembly for a week.

Richard Spencer, head teacher at Ely College, said: “It was a very poignant piece and clearly something very important to our students as they continue to explore equality and diversity in politics which are at the core of modern British values.”
