YVONNE welcomed everyone to our March meeting, including two visitors, Alison and Betty. The minutes were read and signed and a short business session followed. Everyone agreed last month's Valentine party was most enjoyable. Our star of the evening, Betty Wilbraham, gave us a detailed account of events following her experience when she was asked to remove her rain hat in a pub. She wrote to the Ely Standard and after her article was featured in the paper her popularity snowballed and she has since been on the television and several radio programmes and prompted people to write to the paper.
Birthday cards and gifts were given to Virginia, Rene and Sheila. Yvonne then introduced our speaker Tony Cresswell who gave us an interesting and informative talk on sewing machines telling us their history right back to the first portable one. He was warmly thanked by Joan. After refreshments and the draw, Joan and Sheila showed us how to make wool dolls. Mr Cresswell judged our competition and awarded points as follows; five pts - Helena, four pts - Yvonne, three pts - Patricia, two pts - Joan and Muriel. The evening closed with the singing of Jerusalem. Our next meeting is on April 10 at 7.30pm in the Old Dispensary, St Mary's Street, Ruth Bendall will be showing us how to decorate an Easter Egg. Why not come along and have a go, please bring an egg to decorate. As you can see we are not just jam and Jerusalem.
