Ben Shipp, 23, received the award at the College of West Anglia Apprenticeship Awards, which were held on March 6.

Having completed his Level 3 horticulture course, he said: “My apprenticeship went really well.

“It took a lot of hard work and determination to finish the course and so to win this award is a big achievement.

“I’d like to thank my employers at the club and my assessor Sally for such strong support along the way.”

Andy Baker, head greenkeeper at the golf course, said: “Ben really got stuck into the apprenticeship with us and everyone at the golf club is very proud of him.

“Ben is our second apprentice and it’s nice to know we are producing such high-achieving employees.”

Ben will now go forward to be judged as a potential finalist for the college’s annual student awards in June, where an overall ‘apprentice of the year’ will be crowned.
