Ely City Golf Club has applied for a new premises license which could see it open for 24 hours a day - but the proposed opening hours have been criticised by nearby residents.

The club, on Cambridge Road, currently has a premises certificate allowing the supply of alcohol to members and guests and entertainment from Monday to Sunday from 10am until 1pm, as well as opening hours of 10am until 1.30am.

It has applied for a new license allowing it to stay open for 24 hours a day, as well as the supply of late night refreshment – both indoors and outdoors - from 11pm to 5am from Monday to Sunday.

However, the license has been criticised by resident Keith Mitchell, who lives two doors down from the club.

He says that noise from events and car parking at the club is “disturbing already,” and that future events should end at midnight.

Mr Mitchell also believes that the club should limit the number of events it holds every year to “avoid disturbance to neighbouring properties”, as well as “closing the rear doors of the clubhouse when events are on.”

The club’s application will go before East Cambridgeshire District Council’s licensing committee on October 14.
