The choir were joined for a special service of evensong at Ely Cathedral by former singers and directors spanning the whole 25 year history.

And, to mark the occasion, the choir, conducted by director of music Matthew Rudd, gave the world premiere of a specially-commissioned work ‘Psalm 150’ by Will Todd. The composer, who wrote an anthem last year for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee service, was present for the occasion and later told guests at a special reception of his pleasure on hearing new creations performed.

Chairman John Simmons welcomed guests, highlighted the choir’s plans for developing a commissions fund, made a special presentation to organist and regular accompanist Jonathan Lilley following his recent departure from Ely and drew guests’ attention to a special display of posters and photographs covering the varied history of the choir.

A special anniversary cake was cut and the massed ranks of current and former members entertained guests by performing two pieces ‘on sight’ in the cathedral’s Lady Chapel.”
