The Ely and district branch of the charity Cats Protection raised more than £250 when they hit the city's streets earlier this month.

Rachel Edwards, press and publicity officer for the Ely and district branch of Cats Protection, said: “We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all those lovely people in Ely last Saturday who generously gave us their money.

“We also enjoyed chatting to cat owners about their fur babies. In total we raised £267.

“This money goes towards the costs of caring for the cats in our branch.

“One of our concerns at the moment is to encourage neutering and micro-chipping your cats.”

The branch operates in and around Ely, its surrounding towns, villages and farmland.

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity.

“Our vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs,” said a spokesmen for the charity.
