It was a symbolic act of remembrance replicated across the UK.

Piper Kernaghan was greeted by a small crowd who had gathered in the wet and rain to join a small ceremonial.

The Dean of Ely Mark Bonney read a specially written tribute and conducted prayers.

The day continued with the service of remembrance followed by wreath laying and concludes tonight with the lighting of the beacon on St Mary’s Green.
