Ely Cathedral’s iconic octagonal tower was lit up in the colours of the Union Jack as part of the city’s way of saying ‘happy birthday’ to the Queen, who turned 90 yesterday.

The tower was bathed in multicoloured lights during the city’s beacon lighting ceremony, which was hosted by Mayor of Ely, Lis Every.

The cathedral’s octagon was built in the 1320s in the wake of the collapse of the Norman tower, and regular tours of the tower take place throughout the year.
