Ely Cathedral’s octagon tower was transformed into a beacon of glowing purple light last night.

The cathedral will be lit up for four nights in support of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness 2016.

Niki Brown organised the event in memory of all those who lost their battles against the disease, including her own brother, who passed away aged 38.

She said: “We hope that by lighting up the octagon tower in purple, we will help put a spotlight on a disease that many people still know so very little about.”

The charity also had a stall at the city’s Market Place, where donations could be made.
