Rebeca Sutton, from 1094 (City of Ely) Squadron, completed her gold cyber specialist course at the base in Shropshire.

The course included learning about legal aspects of computing, different types of cyber attacks, security protocols and how network traffic is accessed and can be used maliciously.

CWO Sutton will now be delivering cyber training to her fellow 45 Air Cadets at Ely Squadron as well as to the rest of the 900 Air Cadets in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire wing.

CWO Sutton said: “Cyber security is such an important part of our lives and yet as young people we have little in-depth knowledge about the risks. “I hope that by delivering these valuable cyber training courses for the cadets we can help our cadets remain safe online.”

After completing the gold cyber training course participants were given the opportunity to fly drones, and examine the only complete enigma code breaking machine in the world.

She added: “I’ve had an amazing week away with the RAF, there has never been a dull moment and getting our hands on the enigma code machine was a unique opportunity. I highly recommend this course to any cadet with an interest in computing.”

Ely Royal Air Force Air Cadets are holding an open night for new recruits aged from 12 to 17 years old at their headquarters in Heaton Drive, Ely, on October 3 at 8pm.

The evening will also see the judging of the Great Squadron Bake Off competition.
