FROM Stereophonics covers band to slick rock outfit, After Effect are looking to make it third time lucky in the Cambridge Band Competition.

The trio from Wilburton and Ely are set to play their hearts out at Soul Tree, Cambridge on April 28 to win through to the final at Cambridge Corn Exchange.

Drew Girling (vocals) and Sam Greene (bass) have been together for four years, and 18-year-old Neil Dodd (drums) is a recent addition, fresh from his day job as an apprentice engineer at Shearline.

The group clearly have the banter of a tight-knit unit, and their rock style, recorded at the Blue Barn Studios in Little Downham, clearly impressed the judges this time round.

"We've been a lot tighter since Neil's come in," says Sam. "You have to play every gig like it's the one you're going to get signed at, if you're playing the Man in the Moon or Wembley Stadium."

An impressive line up of gigs in locations from Manchester to Ipswich is set for this spring and summer. Look out in the Ely Standard for upcoming gigs.
