An Ely artist made it to the semi-finals of Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year competition.
Isabel Frias de la Uz, who was born in Madrid but has lived in East Cambridgeshire for the last eight years, made it to the competition’s penultimate stage after impressing judges with her work in the wildcard stages.
Isabel’s depiction of Knaresborough won her a place in the semi-finals, with judges Kate Bryan, Kathleen Soriano and Tai-Shan Schierenberg saying her painting of the North Yorkshire town’s iconic railway bridge “stood out” from the other entrants.
The Ely artist then had to produce another landscape painting – this time of lavender fields in Kent - within four hours for a place in the final.
Isabel’s artwork was described as having “nice strength” and “good composition,” but it wasn’t enough to seal a place in the final. Semi-finalists Alice Boggis-Rolfe, John Ball and Tom Voyce were named as the finalists.
