THE Magpas emergency team and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were called to provide medical assistance to an elderly man who was knocked down on a pedestrian crossing in Soham on Saturday.

The man, who is said to be in his nineties, sustained a head, chest and pelvis injury and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

Debbie Florence, for Magpas, said: "Thanks to the emergency training Magpas volunteer doctors and EEAST paramedics receive, our Emergency Medical Team was able to deliver an advanced level of pre-hospital emergency medical care at the scene. It is through our working partnerships with the East Anglia Air Ambulance and the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust that we are able to deliver such a rapid and coordinated response in these circumstances. Coincidently Soham Rotary Club were collecting for Magpas to raise much-needed funds a short distance away from where the accident happened.
