Ely country park has been awarded a top honour for ticking the boxes on being a great place to visit.
The park has been given Natural England’s accredited status.
Launched in 2009, the country parks scheme aims to recognise those sites that deliver good facilities and services.
The Cresswells Lane site made the grade thanks to a mix of its Kingfisher and Bulrush trails, having a site of scientific special interest, a well stocked play and picnic area, disabled access and toilets.
All of which are free and easy to get to.
Councillor Michael Rouse said: “Congratulations to East Cambs District Council staff and all the volunteers who love Ely’s Country Park.
“It has just been awarded Natural England’s accredited status. What an asset for families and it’s free to all!”
To become a country park a site must be at least 10 hectares in size and be less than 10 miles from a residential area.
it must be inclusive, accessible and free.
There must be predominantly natural or semi-natural landscape and be signposted and easy to navigate.
It should be available for public or educational events and close to public toilets, either on-site or a two minute walk away.
