A woman who is well known in Soham for running a cafe and ice cream parlour in the 1950s and 60s is celebrating her 100th birthday.
Edna Roose, with her first husband Jack Clements, owned and ran the Milkiway Cafe and Ice Cream business at Red Lion Square.
On Oct 7 she will celebrate her landmark birthday at Lily House care home where she lives.
Her son Colin Clements said: “Edna was a well known local figure in the 50’s and 60’s.
“She was born in London and as a young woman worked in the jewellery trade in Hatton Garden before moving to Soham with her husband during the war and setting up their business.
“On their retirement they moved to Polperro, Cornwall, but sadly Edna was widowed shortly after.
“Her second husband, Jack Roose was a local fisherman.
“On being widowed for a second time Edna moved back to the area in 1998 to be near her family and after residing in Burwell she now lives in Lily House, Ely.”
She has a daughter in Australia, whom she has visited many times and a son and daughter in Soham.
She has eight grandchildren, 15 great-granchildren and two great-great-granchildren.
