An Ely expat was given a unique opportunity to join the annual Easter procession in Alicante.
Sharon Lyon, formerly of Lynton Drive, moved out to the Spanish village of Pego back in 1999 in search of warmer climes and, together with her husband Terry, have become part of the community.
On Palm Sunday, Sharon was afforded a place in the town’s Easter procession, something husband Terry says made her “one of only a few foreigners” who have been given the opportunity.
Sharon put on her ceremonial robes for the first of four processions over the Easter week. During the procession, a series of statues were paraded around the town led by various bands.
The celebrations will culminate this coming Sunday in the final parade signifying the resurrection, where doves are released and sweets are thrown for the local children.
