Police have charged two men with robbery and causing grievous bodily harm with intent following a “vicious” attack on a 67-year-old man in Ely.

Lee Jones, 32, of Skegness Road, Stevenage, and Sebastian Yellowe, 22, of Langthorne Avenue, Stevenage, have been charged with robbery and causing grievous bodily harm.

They appeared at Cambridge Magistrates Court on Saturday and were remanded in custody until Friday, when they will appear before a judge at Cambridge Crown Court.

It is alleged that the pair robbed and attacked the man late on Wednesday night as he walked through Ely’s Cherry Hill Park, off Broad Street.

When the man did not return home as expected, the alarm was raised and he was discovered shortly after 1am in the park.
