A DRUNKEN teenager who delivered the first punch during a fracas in Ely town centre came off worst during the incident which was caught on CCTV.
Thomas Constable and another man got into a fight over unresolved issues dating back to their school days - including a previous girlfriend.
Constable had started the fight outside a fast food shop on Forehill after a late night drinking session - but his victim retaliated, and Constable was kicked and punched.
Constable, 19, of Ten Mile Bank, Littleport, admitted committing an affray on February 17, and was given an 18-month community order, during which he must take part in aggression replacement treatment. He was given a six-month curfew order, keeping him indoors between 7pm and 7am, and he must pay £70 costs.
"The incident outside a chip shop followed a late night drinking session," said prosecutor Flynn Jennings, "and a fight ensued."
CCTV footage of the incident showed Constable throwing the first punch. His victim, who has already admitted affray, retaliated, and was later followed by Constable.
Mitigating, James Dignan told the court: "What you should know, is that the other party is not willing to make a complaint to the police about this incident.
"It is accepted by my client that he was the first person to use any violence. There had been an exchange of words between the two men, about unresolved issues from their schooldays, in particular to do with an old girlfriend of my client's.
"He was extremely drunk, and you can see he could hardly walk," Mr Dignan told magistrates. "He started it, but he got the worst of it, he was punched and kicked repeatedly, he received a bit of summary justice on that night.
