A 36-year-old man who assaulted a teenage friend while drunk in Ely, saved himself 80 hours community service by pleading guilty.
Chairman of the magistrates, Bryant Watson, told George Jugg of Farriers Gate, Chatteris: "You must restrict your drinking. You've assaulted a friend who is almost half your age and this is one of the worst things you could have done."
Jugg was given 160 hours of community punishment, ordered to pay a £150 fine and £75 compensation to his victim.
Mr Watson said: "We would usually give 240 hours of community punishment for a crime such as this, but have taken into account your guilty plea and the fact that you have shown remorse.
