DRUG addict Carl Scarrow stole from his own father in an attempt to get cash for drugs.

His father Derek is a specialist motor mechanic, and Scarrow stole £1,000-worth of car parts and scrap metal from his shed.

"Scarrow's father noticed a van parked on a track nearby, and saw his son and another person loading scrap metal," prosecutor Olivia Gooding told Ely magistrates on Thursday.

"He later discovered £1,000-worth of engine parts and scrap metal was missing."

At an earlier court hearing, 25-year-old Scarrow, of Broad Piece, Soham, admitted the offence, and also stealing beef from the Co-op at Isleham on two occasions. Scarrow pleaded guilty to stealing beef from the Co-op at Littleport, and stealing toiletries from Superdrug in Cambridge.

He asked for three more thefts to be taken into consideration, and admitted driving without a licence or insurance.

He was given a one-year community order, with supervision, and a drug rehabilitation requirement, and was banned from driving for six months.
