A SUTTON woman who was rushed to hospital with a friend after crashing into a roadside ditch was disqualified from driving by magistrates this week.

Vanessa Hale, of High Street, was driving on the A142 Witchford Road on August 26 when, as a result of her speed, she lost control on the wet road, sending her Skoda careering into a ditch.

While the 25-year-old suffered minor injuries in the incident, her friend spent 12 days in hospital and suffered damage to her liver, spleen and legs.

Appearing at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Hale told the chairman of the bench, Martin Savage: “I was driving through the village of Witchford, it had been raining and I didn’t realise how wet the road was.

“The car just slid across the road, the accident was not as bad as it made out on paper. The car went sideways as I pulled out and I ended up sliding down the bank.”

Pleading guilty to a charge of driving without due care and attention, Hale was handed a three-month discretionary ban by magistrates along with a 185 fine.

She was also ordered to pay 70 court costs and a 15 victim’s surcharge.
