AN engineer who had overslept and was clocked speeding at 95 mph on his way to work has been given three-week driving ban.
James Butcher, 28, of Ten Mile Bank, was caught in a static speed check on the A1101 at Littleport.
"He works for Shearline at Ely as a production engineer," city magistrates were told by solicitor Michael Judkins.
"On the morning in question he was simply late for work, he had not been sleeping well. He was trying to make up time; it was a straight stretch of road."
At the time of the offence Butcher was driving a turbo powered Audi car, but after the the incident he swapped it for a less powerful diesel car, and enrolled with the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
After he admitted speeding, the court fined Butcher 265 and ordered him to pay a 15 surcharge and 35 costs.
