A MOTORIST who had won the use of an iconic Aston Martin car for the day was clocked at 101mph as he drove along the A14 in the borrowed vehicle, Ely magistrates were told.

Kevin Cranstone, 44, explained his actions, saying he had increased his speed, after a lorry drifted into his lane, and he wanted to avoid a collision. He had been returning the car to Nuneaton when he was caught by a speed camera.

Fining him £335, presiding magistrate Bryant Watson told Cranstone: "The A14 is one of the fastest and dangerous roads in the country, whether you are driving a powerful car or not.

"You put your own life at risk, and the lives of other people at risk. Remember, life is sweet."

Cranstone, of Gurton Road, Coggeshall, admitted speeding in the 07-registered car at Woolley on August 6. He was fined £335, six points were endorsed on his licence, and he must pay £35 costs and a £15 surcharge.
