ENGINEER Adrian Money gave an alcohol reading more than double the legal limit after being stopped by police in Ely.
Officers had been alerted by CCTV operators, who had spotted Money leaving The Hereward pub, city magistrates heard on Thursday.
When stopped in Nutholt Lane, 44-year-old Money smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet, said prosecutor Laura Mardell. He failed a breathalyser test, and later gave a reading of 88 mcgs of alcohol in 100 mls of breath, when the legal limit is 35 mcgs.
"It was a stupid and dangerous thing to do," said Money, of Mulberry Way, Ely, who admitted drink-driving on June 22. "I am ashamed; I have let myself and other people down. I am gutted I did it."
Money was banned from driving for 20 months. He was fined 250 and must pay 60 costs and a 15 surcharge.
