DRUG user Martin Quince was picking up his methadone prescription when he drove without any of the necessary documents, he explained to city magistrates on Thursday.
Learner driver Quince, 25, of Wisbech Road, Littleport, admitted driving without insurance, a licence or an MoT certificate on February 3 and February 18.
"I should not have done it, I should not have been driving," he said.
"I drove because I live in Littleport and have various appointments in Ely. Since I was released from prison I have to collect my methadone, and I had no way of getting there.
"Now I hitch a lift or walk."
He was banned from driving for a year and fined a total of £200 with £35 costs.
