DRINK driver David Brown, who swore at a police officer as he refused to move his car from outside a Soham fish and chip shop, has been given a 12-month driving ban.

Brown, 59, of Clay Street, Soham, was also given a one-year supervision order by Ely magistrates on Thursday, and told to pay £55 costs.

At an earlier hearing, the court was told that Brown had been found in the shop leaning against the counter and smelling of drink.

He had parked his Rover car on the pavement and double yellow lines outside the shop.

When he returned to his car he had difficulty getting the keys into the lock.

Police went to Brown's home, where he was abusive and drinking from a bottle of vodka.

A breath test revealed he had 90mg of alcohol to 100mls of breath and Brown admitted driving with excess alcohol.

Brown, who had two previous convictions for drunk driving, told the court: "It was a daft thing to do.

"My wife is disabled and can't walk very far and I am her chauffeur. I had drunk a couple of bottles of lager and a glass of vodka while the officers were in the house. They breathalysed me after I had drunk the vodka.
