Dojima is based at Fordham Abbey and has been test brewing its sake recipes since April.

One of its rice wine recipes is steeped in history at more than 600 years old.

Special guests, some in traditional Japanese costume, were among around 250 people who attended the opening.

A spokesman for Dojima said: “It really was the most amazingly special day and we are so proud to finally open the doors after five years of hard work.

“We had a full programme of presentations, music, dance, kimonos, food and of course, our delicious sake.

“But most of all we had over 250 very special guests who came to wish us well.

“We couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved so far at Dojima but this is just the beginning. It’s going to be an incredible journey.

“On behalf of Team Dojima and the Hashimoto family, who all looked spectacular in their full battle dress, thank you so much for your support so far and we look forward to many years, decades and centuries of serving you fine British made sake in the future!”
