NATIONAL dirt surfing champion Jody Jaggard was sentenced on Thursday to 150 hours of unpaid work for possession of cannabis with intent to supply and possession of ecstasy.

Jaggard, 27, of The Hythe, Ely, admitted possession of ecstasy and was found guilty of the cannabis charge at an earlier hearing.

In mitigation, defence solicitor Adam Haselhurst said Jaggard had until this point no criminal convictions and good prospects.

Jaggard told probation officers he has begun to set up a commercial business manufacturing kite boards and will continue to work with his uncle and cousin in the specialist roofing trade.

When arrested in his horse box home at Beddingham's Farm, Jaggard was found to be in possession of £450 in cash. Mr Haselhurst told the court this was cash earned from odd jobs which was being saved by his client to insulate his horse box.

When sentencing, magistrate Sue Thompson said she was satisfied that the money was earned through Mr Jaggard's own hard work and that she would not make an order for forfeiture.

However, the seized drugs and associated paraphernalia were ordered to be destroyed. Mr Jaggard was ordered to pay £550 for the cost of the trial.
