TV auctioneer David Palmer and a team of antiques experts will be holding a valuation and auction day in Ely, on May 24, and residents are invited to bring along their items.

David, who has featured on television shows such as Flog it, Bargain Hunt and Cash in the Attic hopes to uncover some hidden treasures, offering a prize for the most unusual item.

Experts specialising in jewellery and silver, automobilia, ceramics, furniture and paintings, toys and models, militaria and sporting memorabilia will be on hand from noon until 3pm at the Old Palace to provide expert advice and valuations, with the option of going to auction at 4pm, where local collectors and antiques enthusiasts are also welcome.

The auction will also include paintings by local artist Jim Muggleton, whose work hangs in private collections worldwide. The paintings were donated by King’s Ely student Lydia Sandercock’s family and the proceeds will go to the school’s charity fund.

“Even if you do not plan to sell an antique or heirloom, it is worth finding out how much it is worth for insurance coverage, estate valuation or simply because you are curious,” said David, who is known in the industry for his entertaining auctions and colourful waistcoats.

David lives in Ely and is an Old Elean.

The valuation and auction day will take place from noon on May 24 at the Old Palace, in Ely. Valuations cost £2 per item and there is no obligation to go to auction. A running auction and the final auction will take place from 4pm (cash or cheques only). Refreshments will also be on sale.
