REPORTER Adam Lazzari went out on the streets to ask people if they voted in the local elections, gauge their response to the results and to see what they thought of local politics.
Lawrence Rayment, 53, from Littleport.
"I didn't vote because I've just moved into a new ward and don't know much about the people who were standing there. I'm not very political; whoever gets in will take our money away so I'm not too fussed about the results."
Bernice Chapman, 34, from Ely.
"I didn't vote. I occasionally vote for the Green Party but I don't take local elections too seriously. I just think that anything I desperately need to know will be common knowledge or I'll find out about somehow.
"I see some people getting all excited about things like parking charges, and it's just not raw and gutsy enough to get me going."
Linda Watson, 43, from Ely.
"Yes, I did vote and I am sort of interested in local politics. I guess the result was sort of a bit of a shock but not a massive one. I just feel obliged to vote and it's a bit of a waste if you don't."
Janet Lebrun, 71, from Ely.
"I didn't vote because I didn't receive a voting card. My husband was ill so I couldn't follow it up and get one. I've always voted in the past. I was a bit surprised at the result, but not too much."
Roy Benstead, 65, from Ely.
"I voted. I haven't always, but I think people really ought to. Ely's my city and it would be a shame to waste a vote.
"I think that local elections have nothing to do with party politics, they are just about getting things done.
"I'm not too surprised about the result."
Ray Stannard, 60, from Mepal.
"I did vote this time. I usually do, but not every time. I basically voted to get the Conservatives in power, so I'm obviously happy with the result.
"I was happy to see there were big losses for Labour all over the country, but they will still claim sort of victory, no doubt.
