An Ely couple have donated £280 they raised at their golden anniversary party last month to the treatment of diabetes in the city. Margaret and Barry Glover, who first met at The Woolpack, where the Natwest bank now stands, invited more than 50 guests to their anniversary party at the Castle Lodge Hotel, but asked them to bring donations for the St Mary's Street Surgery instead of gifts. "My wife's diabetic and she's treated by the team at St Mary's Street," Mr Glover, 73, said. "Rather than have a lot of presents, we thought we'd raise a few quid for the surgery."
