Developer seeks permission for new homes on farmland

Plans for a new housing development in Upware have been submitted to planning officials.

Emma Cross, of Isleham, has applied to East Cambridgeshire District Council for outline planning permission a development of four single-storey homes, including two affordable properties, off Upware Road.

The land, which extends to about three-quarters of an acre, is currently used for agriculture.

Agents acting for the applicant told the council: “Our proposals are only small scale in nature. The two market houses proposed reflect the suggested maximum housing schemes within the development envelope should be limited to, whilst the two social houses add more affordable housing stock to the village.

“The public footway proposed to the west of Upware Road will increase pedestrian safety within the vicinity, and the CIL payments associated with such a development could be put towards the some of the other suggested improvements within the village.

“The effect of the proposed development on the surrounding properties and land owners would be minimal as the proposals are only single storey in nature, and would be landscaped in a manner to reduce any impact.”
