With the help of two members of the Lions Club of Littleport, he was escorted and guided around the city centre.
He said: “The guides helped me to identify and avoid various obstacles. Thanks to Warren, of Camsight, for the loan of the stick, but I would have been terrified without guides.
“Special thanks to young photographer Harriet Stares who went with us and took the photographs.”
The event was supported by Ely family business Wade’s Optometrists, Camsight, Fen Probe and Blind Veterans. Each organisation took part received cheques for £50 each from the Lions Club of Littleport.
“All these organisations are seeking volunteers to help with their work,” added Cllr Rouse.
“Thanks to Lions David and Jenny Ellis for the invitation and organising the event and their team of helpers.”
