A BANNED driver who collided with cars at a roundabout and then drove off without stopping has admitted a charge of dangerous driving.

Robert Smith, 34, of Ryemanmoore Drove, Sutton hit the back of a Ford Focus at the junction of Wisbech Road and Isle of Ely Way in March, propelling it into a Mitsubishi.

Observed by an off-duty police officer, Smith exceeded the speed limit, crossed solid white lines in the road and caused oncoming cars to swerve as he overtook vehicles on his way to Rings End. In Guyhirn, he turned into Gull Road on the wrong side of bollards, and drove at speed past the village primary school.

Appearing before Fenland magistrates on Wednesday, Smith admitted dangerous driving, driving when disqualified and without insurance or an MoT, and failing to stop and failing to report an accident on December 15 last year.

He was committed to Cambridge Crown Court for sentencing.
