LITTLEPORT Leisure Centre is to host a charity show to raise funds for local organisations.

Organiser Terry Cowles said he had the idea for the Littleport Country Show after hearing this year's Littleport Show had been cancelled.

"We really wanted to bring something to the town that would benefit the community," he said. The show will be at the leisure centre on August 6 from 10.30am-6pm, and the non-profit-making show will feature classic cars, a funfair and inflatable rides.

"We've also got quirky things like ferret racing and a scariest scarecrow competition," Mr Cowles said.

There will also be a shaggiest pooch competition, children's karting, a fun house, activity course and musical entertainment from Cottenham Brass Band.

A number of local charities will be represented at the show, including Branching Out, Each and Ely Cats Protection, all of which have been given tickets for the event to sell, with all profits going to the individual charity.

There will also be free car boot pitches available. Mr Cowles said he is looking for volunteers to marshal the event.
