DRUNKEN Kevin Tidey was looking for his dog when he turned up at a woman's home and smashed a kitchen window with a length of wood.

He then kicked a man outside the property, and after arrest Tidey smashed a window of a police car.

Appearing at Ely courthouse on Thursday, 32-year-old Tidey admitted charges of criminal damage and assault.

Prosecuting, Laura Mardell said Tidey turned up at an Ely property around 9.30pm on April 3.

He rang a doorbell before angrily shouting: "Do you want some beef?" and he hit the front door four times with the piece of wood.

"He continued to shout, and hit the kitchen window, causing it to smash," said Miss Mardell. "The occupant also found a dent on the door, and chips on the paintwork.

A man who went outside the property was kicked on the leg twice by Tidey

"The defendant was put in the back of the caged area of a police car, and he smashed the rear window," added Miss Mardell.

"He mistakenly believed the occupants had taken his dog, but it had been let out. He had been drinking earlier in the day.

Solicitor Adam Haselhurst said there had been "ongoing problems" with the householders.

"On the night of these offences he had got to the end of his tether," added Mr Haselhurst. "He had drunk a bottle of wine. He thought these people had his dog, but he later discovered it had got out of the front door.

"He went round there, and accepts causing damage to the window and the door." The assault victim was not injured, he added.

"In the police van he kicked out at the window, he wanted to call out to his dog and his partner, clearly his state of mind was quite muddled."

Tidey, formerly of Merivale Way, Ely, and now living in Chesterton, was given a two month curfew order, requiring him to wear an electronic tag and stay indoors between 7pm and 7am. He must pay 55.65 compensation to the police, 50 for the smashed window, and 85 costs.
