THIS weekend, visitrs t the Ely Farmers Market will be able t get mre than an strich burger, specialist cheese r a lcally brewed pint; they will be able t hear hw they can recycle a lt mre f their waste.
Recycling fficers frm East Cambridgeshire District Cuncil will be manning a stall n Saturday t give custmers help with recycling queries, explain the new kerbside cllectin f plastic bttles and give cmpsting advice.
Frm April 1, new waste and recycling cllectin times, affecting a small area, will be intrduced. This infrmatin is being explained in leaflets, which will be left with hmewners in the weeks leading up t April 1.
Cuncillr David Brwn, vice-chairman f Envirnment & Transprt and Waste Champin at East Cambridgeshire District Cuncil, said: "Last summer we made the imprtant decisin t retain weekly waste cllectins. As a cuncil we listened t what the residents in the district wanted and frm the huge number f psitive cmments I have received I knw this was the right decisin.
"As part f the cntract t keep the weekly cllectin, we were als able t intrduce plastic bttle kerbside cllectins. I believe this will make a real difference t the amunt f waste yu see being put ut in black bin bags. April will als see new waste and recycling cllectin times fr sme f ur residents and we are ding everything we can t make sure everyne knws this.
"Thrughut the next mnth, the cuncil will be hlding a variety f events such as the stall n the farmers markets t give residents recycling advice. We will als have a variety f cmpst bins fr residents t view alng with infrmatin n where they can be purchased at knck-dwn prices. A Master Cmpster will be n-hand t prvide useful tips n hw t get the best ut f yur green waste. S if yu have a query please pp alng n Saturday and we will d are best t help."
There will als be a limited supply f fd caddies, which are like a mini recycling bin fr fd waste, and liners t give away, n a first-cme-first-served basis.
