Gripping crime sagas and nostalgia have proved the most popular choices among readers who have made use of East Cambridgeshire’s library at home service over the last 20 years.
The service is run by a band of 35 dedicated volunteers and a ceremony is being held tomorrow (Friday) in Ely library to celebrate their work, with many having volunteered their time since the service was founded in 1995.
Jennie Johns, the library at home co-ordinator, said: “We have about 50 service users in East Cambs and they average about six books a month each, so we deliver hundreds of books every month.
“Family and crime sagas have always been the most popular with readers, as have books on nostalgia and history. We keep people going with their reading and provide a point of contact for them too. We also offer audio, CDs and large print books.”
Library at home is a free service and also operates in Fenland, Cambridge and Huntingdonshire.
The volunteer ceremony begins at 1.30pm and will feature a speech from Leslie Cutherbert, of Care Network UK.
