A range rover careered into a King’s Ely boarding house – no students were injured – but the driver was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
The incident happened on Back Hill at around 6.45am on Tuesday.
It is thought that the driver may have suffered a medical emergency.
Principal of King’s Ely, Sue Freestone, said: All students and staff in the house are safe and well, and there were no injuries to any members of the King’s Ely community.
“We communicated immediately with parents and guardians of students for whom the house is their home. The incident resulted in damage to the building but what matters is that no one was injured. Our thoughts are with the driver of the vehicle.”
Police, fire and ambulance services were attendance and traffic was held up for a while whilst the damaged vehicle was removed.
Back Hill was closed at its junction with Silver Street for a few hours.
