An ambitious plan has been launched to improve Ely’s riverside area – and residents are being asked to give their views.

The City of Ely Council and East Cambridgeshire District Council have come together to launched the Riverside Improvement Plan, which the two authorities hope will transform the area beside the River Great Ouse.

Proposals currently on the table include new seating, new trees and landscaping and flower beds.

A series of initial plans have been drawn up and are set to go on display in Ely Library, in The Cloisters, today (Thursday), from 10am-noon.

City of Ely councillors will be on hand to answer questions and hear the thoughts of residents about the plans.

Cllr John Yates, deputy mayor of Ely, said: “The project proposes to improve facilities and enhance the appearance of the riverside frontage in response to feedback from residents, that the area should be more attractive for residents and visitors.

“Some required maintenance and improvements have already been undertaken but further enhancements could be considered and funded from monies received by the City of Ely Council from developers.

“To help shape ideas for this sensitive and valued area of the City, we would like people to come and have a look at some initial proposals, and give us their thoughts and views.”
