A bridge that links Wilburton and the surrounding villages with Cambridge is to be upgraded.

Cambridgeshire County Council announced this week that it would be investing £85,000 into repairing and improving a bridge on the Twenty Pence Road near Wilburton.

Work will start on October 28 and, over five weeks, the concrete bridge will be repaired, kerbing installed and safety fencing on the approach roads replaced and improved.

Work will be carried out on weekdays between 7.30am-6pm, with a reduced 40mph speed limit and traffic lights controlling vehicles using the bridge.

County councillor for Wilburton, Bill Hunt, welcomed the news. He said: “This work will effect quite a few local residents who use Twentypence Road to avoid the A10.

This well used bridge needs to be kept up to scratch.”
