FRAUD investigators have chased benefit cheats in East Cambs for almost £100,000 over the last three years.
Figures released this week by East Cambridgeshire District Council show that the authority has launched 17 prosecutions in the last three years, seeking to recoup some of the £95,530.41 that was cheated from the public purse.
The financial year 2011/12 saw the district council prosecute seven people for a total of £41075.47, the largest total over the three-year period.
The figures, released under the Freedom of Information Act, also show that the council employs one full-time fraud investigator, a part time fraud manager and part time fraud administrator in its battle against cheats.
