Cambridgeshire County Council says progress is finally being made after it ordered a land owner at Mepal to remove 20,000 tonnes of waste illegally dumped on a field.
An update to the enforcement case will be presented to a meeting of the council’s planning committee – due to take place today (Thursday).
In a report to councillors, Andrew Greenwood, principal enforcement officer for the county council, said that a notice was issued in April requiring the waste – on land next to Mepal airfield - to be removed within six months.
It was described by Mr Greenwood as “inert waste and aggregate”.
Almost six months on and the council reported that the waste was “currently being removed” and was on track to be cleared by October 23.
The land owner was ordered by the council to remove the waste and “restore the land to its former condition prior to the breach of planning control i.e. a state fit for the former agricultural use.”
