Three young people are cooking up a future successful career for themselves by doing apprenticeships at a flagship pub restaurant in Isleham.
Two chefs and one front of house staff have been taken on by Adrian Smith who is bringing good food and thriving village community atmosphere back to the menu.
Mr Smith, who is taking on a fourth apprentice shortly, said: “The good thing about apprenticeships is young people learn on the ground training.
“Everything they know they know by doing it. If they need to learn about jointing meat they get on and have a go, supervised by somebody who has been doing it for years.
“That way real skills are passed on. These apprenticeships are doing brilliantly and will continue to flourish for two years.
“It’s important to support and train the next generation of chefs,” he said.
The apprenticeship programme is part of a drive by Mr Smith to bring good local food to local people.
As part of that he is holding a mini food festival on Saturday August 15 when independent suppliers will be showcasing their goodies with a chance to sample and buy different foods.
There will be live music, a barbecue, face painting and games for the children and cocktails for the adults.
“It’s a chance to show the community what we do here and enjoy a family day out,” he said.
