Voters in Soham North Ward have chosen a new councillor following the resignation of the previous representative, James Palmer, who stood down after becoming the new mayor for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Yesterday (Thursday) electors took to the polls to vote with a choice of three candidates vying for their crosses in the box.
The count followed the closure of the polling station at the Walter Gidney Pavillion where it was announced the turnout was 17.8 per cent.
At 10.41pm, the Returning Officer, John Hill, from East Cambs District Council, declared the count totals, which were as follows:
Mark Brannan Goldsack (Conservative) - 423 - who was elected.
Alec Lionel Jones (Liberal Democrats) - 178
Peter James Tyson (Labour Party) - 108
The number of papers counted was 712. There were three rejected papers.
