Parliamentary hopeful Lucy Frazer has called on Conservative councillors in South East Cambridgeshire to help raise awareness of dementia.

Mrs Frazer is becoming a Dementia Friend – an initiative backed by the Alzheimer’s Society - and has urged councillors to join her in raising awareness of the condition.

According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are currently 1,522 people with dementia living in South East Cambridgeshire.

More than 1 in 3 people with dementia live in the community, yet 34 per cent of those with the condition do not feel part of it.

Mrs Frazer says she has invited Conservative councillors to take part in a training session to understand more about dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends initiative strives to give people more understanding and awareness of dementia to reduce stigma and enable those affected by dementia to feel part of their community.

Mrs Frazer said “Ensuring that we have the best possible care as we all grow older is important. Dementia Friends does a great job of increasing awareness of dementia and I am pleased to have the opportunity to encourage others to increase their own understanding.”
