MAGISTRATES have awarded £650 compensation to a 14-year-old boy who suffered a broken nose and a head wound when attacked by a group of youths in Burwell.
Two 16-year-olds who admitted assaulting the schoolboy app-eared before Ely Youth Court on Thursday.
Prosecutor Delia Matthews told the court how the 14-year-old saw a car travelling around the village, with its occupants shouting.
When the car stopped, the boy was surrounded by a group of youths, and he was hit on the head, face and arms. Solicitor Robert Milsom said the assault was a joint enterprise, although one of the 16-year-old defendants did not physically attack the boy, but did shout encouragement.
The 16-year-old who delivered blows to the boy had his referral order extended from six months to 12 months, and was ordered to pay £400 compensation and £70 costs. The second defendant was given a three-month referral order and must pay £250 compensation and £70 costs.
