A leading international concrete company has applied for planning permission to expand its premises in Littleport.

Irish company FP McCann has applied for retrospective permission to swallow up almost five acres of agricultural land adjoining its Wisbech Road site for use as storage for its concrete products.

FP McCann describes itself as the UK’s leading manufacturer of concrete drainage products and says it needs to expand its Littleport facility in order to meet “an expanding order book”.

The company told East Cambridgeshire District Council: “The proposed open storage facility is critical to the future prosperity of the existing concrete products factory which was reprieved by the applicant’s recent acquisition of the business and premises.

“The proposal itself will not generate any additional vehicle movements, but will provide greater operating flexibility and the prospect of future jobs growth associated with new contracts that are in the pipeline.”

The company employs 25 people in Littleport but says it will be able to employ up to 50 people if it is granted permission to expand.

A decision on the plans is expected within the next eight weeks. To view the plans, or to have a say, visit www.eastcambs.gov.uk
