Methodist Church

PRAYERS were said by the stewards before last Sunday's service at 11am, led by Rev David Salmon. The first reading was taken from Genesis and the second from Matthew. Hymns were sung and an offering was made. The reverend's service was based on Joseph. Prayers were said for the people of Georgia.

The Sunday evening service at 6.30pm was led by the Rev Christopher Bishop with Holy Communion. Organists were Pam Austin and Donald Monk.

St Peter's Church

SUNDAY: the celebrant and preacher at the 9.15am Eucharist will be the Rev Reg Macklin, and the singing will be led by St Peter's Singers.

The Olive Tree Fellowship

AFTER some lively worship in our Sunday morning service, we celebrated Holy Communion, during which Ron and Susan Greydanus sang. The teenagers had a Bible study while the Pastor spoke to the rest of us about Christianity being infectious, suggesting we should pray for a pandemic! Many stayed on for lunch after the service.

Sunday: worship - 10.30am. The Pastor will continue the series on elementary principles, looking this time at faith in God. Crèche and Sunday School will be available. On Friday morning, from 10am until noon the Open Door Café will run, offering a friendly place to meet and enjoy freshly made coffee, tea and cake. All are welcome.

Ely Northwold WI

PRESIDENT Rosemary Green welcomed members to her home on August 13 for their monthly meeting. Birthday gifts and cards to Rosemary Green, Brenda Maton and Meg Murray. The theme for the evening was the South Pacific and members arrived suitably dressed for the occasion. The competition for the best hair ornament was won by Christine Dickens with Pat Miles a close second. The food served also had a tropical theme including cous cous, chicken curry and tropical rice. Desserts were provided by members. The general knowledge competition with a colour theme was won by Ann Williams.

The next meeting will be on September 10 at the Old Dispensary at 7.15pm when the speaker will be Phillis Baptie who talk on the 'history of dolls' houses.

Parish Church

MORNING prayer at St Michael and All Angels on Sunday was led by Ruth Denigan who also played the organ. The first lesson was read by Michael Richer who also presented the offertory.

HADDENHAM

Baptist Chapel

EVERYONE was welcomed by Jim, who gave out the notices. Sue Green conducted a group game with jokes and puppets. Josh, Gareth, Gabrielle, James and Rachel received medals, followed by a DVD about Jesus on the road to Emmaus, followed by singing and prize-giving. The team scores were as follows: Blues - 99, Reds - 99 and Purples - 83. Each of the following was awarded a cup: Connor, Mary, Jo, Daniel, Josh, Jack, Shannon, Kate, Lynn, Rebecca, Nathanial and Rachel. This was followed by another sketch with Gareth and Jim. The service closed with prayers and hymns. Sunday: service will be taken by the Rev Jim Mullin.

LITTLEPORT

The Vine Community Church

WE are a lively non-denominational church which meets at the Regal on Hempfield Road in Littleport.

Sunday: service is at 10:30am with contemporary music worship and the sermon by Pastor Don Gee. Youth and children's Sunday School is provided during the sermon.

After the service we welcome you to stay for coffee, tea, and fellowship.

St George's Church

THE vicar presided at the 8am Holy Communion on Sunday. The preacher at the 10am service was Jane Harris. At 6.30pm there was a very enjoyable United Service at The Vine Community Church to mark the closing of the 2 Going Bananas programme. This included the presentation of the children's certificates.

Sunday: The vicar will preside and preach at the 8am Holy Communion and the 10am Parish Eucharist. The 6.30pm evening service will be held at St John's Methodist Church to conclude the Flower Festival.

Tuesday: junior confirmation class at 11am.

Wednesday: Holy Communion at 9.30am.

Thursday: Children's Activity Day, from 10am till 4pm, for children of primary school age.

Salvation Army

THE Sunday afternoon meeting was led by Sister Denise Walford from Sutton, Surrey. Denise is grand-daughter of Joyce and Jack Cole of Littleport. Her daughters Ruth and Rebecca gave our 'senior' congregation some help in understanding 'whatever' and other modern phrases to help us keep in touch with teenagers and share our faith. On Sunday evening, we joined the United Songs of Praise at the Vine Community Church, Ian Caddy accompanying singing on the drum. Public collections last week in Ely raised £581.68 toward the annual national appeal in aid of Salvation Army social work. We are grateful for the support of all who gave so generously.

Sunday: meetings are at 11am and 3pm at City Road. Our Harvest Festival and Harvest Supper take place on September 7/8 and will be led by Major Richard Jones, rural chaplain for East Anglia.

Evangelical Church

WE are a family oriented church where children are welcomed. We have a children's church for ages three to eight years and another for ages nine to 12 years. The children's church services are held at 10.30am every Sunday. This week, Pastor Barnds will be speaking on the conversion of the apostle Paul. TreeHouse Club

TREEHOUSE Club exists in order to offer a safe and wholesome place where young people can come and have fun. There are outdoor activities on the all-weather sports pitch, basketball court and trampoline and indoor activities such as crafts, computer games and table games. TreeHouse will be sponsoring a football team and a puppet club. TreeHouse is open each Friday from 6.30pm-9pm and is located in the Evangelical Church. St John's Methodist Church

LAST Sunday's morning worship was led by Tony Murfitt. Jean Murfitt read the lesson and Peter Kirby was the pianist.

This weekend, August 23-25, the Flower Festival will be held. This year's topic is 'creation'. The church will be open from 9am-6.30pm on Saturday. There will be a coffee morning from 9am-11am. Lunches will be served from noon till 2pm on Saturday and light refreshments will be available during the day. There will be a concert with Duncan Palmer and Friends on Saturday evening, from 7pm.

Sunday: the Rev June Mallabon will lead the Sunday morning service at 10.45am. After this the church will be open from noon till 6pm. The evening service will be a Songs of Praise starting at 6.30pm.

Monday: the church will be open from 9am-8pm. Lunches will be served from noon till 2pm and also light refreshments during the day.

Over 60's

RUTH Ginn welcomed members to the meeting on Friday. Members were invited to sign a card for John King who was to have been the speaker but due to illness was not able to attend. Peggy Gibbon gave out the announcements, and birthday greetings were sung to Vera Seal who celebrates her birthday on Monday. Peggy welcomed Alan Coogan who provided an excellent musical and humorous afternoon's entertainment. Ruth thanked Alan, and Peggy presented him with a gift. Vera Seal organised the raffle; the ladies served refreshments and the meeting closed with the singing of the club hymn.

Methodist Church

SUNDAY: Morning worship is at 10am and was led by Duncan Palmer. The Rev Sheila MacInally led the evening worship at 6.30pm.

Sunday: Holy Communion with the Rev Edwin Myers at 10am. There is no service at 6.30pm on August 29. Ann and Sarah Willett have an 'at home' morning with tea and coffee, and scones and cakes, plus raffle ticket, and all for £1.Everyone welcome.

There will be a mini fete on the green outside Budgens, from 9.30am till noon, with stalls, tombola, bric-a-brac and games. Proceeds from both these events will go to Soham Methodist Church's Property Development Fund.

SUTTON

Photographic Group

THE August meeting opened with a 'show and tell' display of photographs by Mick Dolphin which meant something special to him. The speaker for the evening was Barry Cant on 'what makes a good photograph'. After refreshments, Ian Stacey was congratulated on attaining a prestigious professional qualification and he showed us the portfolio of photographs he had submitted to the judging panel.

Next meeting will be at 7.30pm on September 4 at the Pavilion and the competition will be 'through the archway'.

WARDY HILL

THERE were four tables in play at the dominoes held on August 8 in the social club when Mrs M Dewsbery was MC. WITCHFORD

St Andrew's Church

THE Rev Teresa Dixon was the celebrant at Sunday's service. Next Sunday, there will be Holy Communion at 10.30am.

On Tuesday there is Holy Communion at 10am and on Wednesday, Morning Prayer is at 9.30am. The next family service will be on Sunday, September 7 at 10.30am. The Sunday School will meet again the following Sunday. The Toddler Praise service

will be held at the changed time of 2pm, on the first Wednesday of every month, starting on September 3, and the Baby Café will resume at 9.30am in St Andrew's Hall on September 5. There will be a coffee morning and

bring-and-buy in the hall on September 3 at 10am in aid of the church extension appeal. All welcome.
