THE morning service on Trinity Sunday was led by the Rev June Mallabon with readings from Jan Johnson and Marjorie and David Middleton. The service included a hymn sung by the Music group as well as congregational hymns and prayers. The children later joined the adult service. The evening service was led by Dianne Bright. The organist was Donald Monk.

Tuesday: 7.30pm - Bible Discussion Group at the Manse.

Thursday: midday until 1.30pm - Shoppers' Lunch.

Sunday: 10.30am - service led by the stewards: 12pm - open air Churches Together in Ely service held in Jubilee Gardens, led this year by Ely Methodist Church; 6.30pm - Holy Communion led by Rev June Mallabon.

The Olive Tree

SUNDAY'S service was taken by Pastor Pat. Much of the worship time, and the celebration of Holy Communion, reminded us how our God is with us even in the really hard times.

This Sunday's service at 10.30am will be shorter than usual, as we will then move along to Jubilee Gardens for a Churches Together in Ely united service at noon.

Friday's Open Door Caf� is becoming ever more popular, but there is still room for more to join us for refreshments and company between 10.00am and noon.

All are welcome at these events.

Baptist Chapel

DAVID welcomed everyone and gave out the notices. Happy Birthday was sung to Bernie. The offering was taken by Rachel and Daniel. Jim spoke about how we welcome strangers into the Church. A Mr and Mrs contest was held between Gareth and Pauline (who were celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary) and David and Lindsey. A Bible reading followed from Acts 9. A video concerning Vince Casper on the run from Telmarine soldiers to encounter the High King Peter was shown. Eileen gave her testimony. Jim spoke of Paul's conversion. The service closed with a hymn and prayer, followed by saying the Grace together.

Home Groups will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and on Sunday at 7pm at Sue Green's house.

Next Sunday there will be a service for May's 90th birthday, followed by a Faith lunch.

Sylvia and Rachel's Baptismal is on June 21.

Women's Institute

PRESIDENT Valerie Cadman welcomed the members to the meeting, and introduced the speaker Susan Matthews, the Curator of Ely Cathedral Stained Glass Museum. Susan gave a very interesting and informative talk on the history of how stained glass windows have been made from the 12th century onwards. Valerie Cadman won the competition for a piece of stained glass.

The meeting on July 7 is at 'Art Mundi' in Aldreth.

LITTLEPORT

St George's Church

REV Canon Barber presided at the 8am Holy communion on Sunday. Rev Mark Amey presided at the 10am Parish Eucharist when Carol Swain delivered the sermon. The First Sunday Praise at 6.30pm was led by Norman Sarkies.

St John's Methodist Church

THE services for Trinity Sunday were taken by Keith Penn in the morning and Rev Christopher Bishop in the evening, which included the celebration of Holy Communion. Pat Hodson was the pianist for the evening service.

Saturday: there will be a prayer meeting in the vestry at 9.30am.

David Middleton will lead the service on Sunday at 10.45am and Rev Barbara Garwood will lead a united service at 6.30pm.

The Vine Community Church

SUNDAY: 10:30am service with contemporary music worship and the sermon by Pastor Don Gee.

Youth and children's Sunday school is provided during the sermon and our cr�che is open for the babies and little ones throughout the service from 10.15am.

After the service we welcome you to stay for coffee, tea, and fellowship.

Summer Children's Holiday Club will be held from August 10-14, from 10am until noon. The theme this year will be 'champions challenge'. This is a joint venture with the other churches in Littleport. There is a planning meeting on June 17 at 7.30pm at The Regal.

We have a tent at the Littleport Show on July 25. The theme will be 'time travel' in the style of Dr Who. If you are interested in helping contact Don.

Next week small groups will be meeting to fellowship and encourage one another in their designated homes.

THE church has called a new lay pastor to succeed Peter Cockerton who has served the church since 1972. Pastor Tudor Parsons joins us and takes up the appointment with immediate effect.

The service on Sunday was conducted by Norman Gulliver. The Girls' Brigade will meet on Friday at 6pm.

Sunday: there will be a United Family Service and Girls' Brigade parade at 10.30am to be conducted by the Rev Nick Hudson.

On June 18 the at 7.30pm there will be an evening of music and song by the Waterbeach Salvation Army band and songsters to celebrate the Chapel Anniversary.

THE service on Sunday morning to celebrate the Trinity was conducted by Scott Eversman.

This Sunday we will be joining the Baptist Church for a United Family service at 10.30am.

MEPAL

A GARDEN party is being arranged for June 13 at 5 Laurel Close if the weather is fine. If wet, the event will take place in the Village Hall to start at 2pm. Monies raised will be sent to EACH (East Anglian Children's Hospice) to honour the memory of Beryl Barlow who died suddenly on June 13, 2008. All welcome.

Three Peaks Challenge

FATHER and daughter Bruce and Charlotte King from Sutton will be undertaking the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday. The pair, along with work colleagues, will be walking 24.5 miles including 5,000 feet of climbing in just 12 hours. They hope to raise �1,000 for Wateraid.

THE Plodders run every Wednesday evening. They plan to hold a 10K plod around the village on September 19 to raise money for Macmillan and Cancer Research.

THANKS to all who entered the competition. Winner was Sheila Eastwood for her photograph of a stoat. Mike Frost's portfolio of images was awarded 77 points out of 80, a considerable winning achievement.

Garden Club

FIFTY members, partners and friends travelled to Newnham College in Cambridge on May 13 where they were given a conducted tour of the 20-acre grounds by head gardener Tony Arnold.

Sutton Feast

THIS year's Feast runs from June 25 to July 5 and will host more than 50 events. Some of the familiar events return and lots of new ones, including Tudor Murder Mystery, Snail Racing, Psychic Evening, Fun in the Sun, Children's Quiz, Beading Demonstration, Lucie's Story and a village composting and horticultural afternoon. Party in the Park will be held on September 5.

WILBURTON

St Peter's Club

MEMBERS visited Melton Mowbray markets on May 19, one of the few animal markets still running and also a street market. The weather stayed dry until the group stopped at Stamford for tea on the way home.

On May 29 the members enjoyed a tea provided by the committee members. They were entertained by Trevor John who sang and played the organ. This was followed by a raffle.

There will be a coffee morning in St Peters Hall at 10am on June 13.

An outing to Lowestoft is planned for June 23.

A club day with bingo will be held on June 26 and, on July 2, a visit to Wisbech Rose Fair and Sandringham.

Youth Club

THE club had a bring-and-buy cake stall on the church green on May 16.

Youngsters helped man the stall and many villagers, not even related to the Youth Club, brought along cakes which were very much appreciated and went down a treat with buyers.

Caroline, youth club leader, sold her first 'home-made' cake - she was very pleased. Ali Clubb raised �49 from selling his home-made jams and chutneys. Also, a big thank you to everyone who helped in one way or another as the grand total came to �193.50 for club funds.

The Youth Club is holding its annual Open Gardens event in Wilburton on June 21, from 1pm - 5pm so anyone with an interest in beautifully well maintained gardens should pop along and have a look around and perhaps even have a scone and tea at the same time.

WITCHFORD

St Andrew's Church

CANON Fiona Brampton led the family service with baptism on Sunday.

Sunday: there will be Holy Communion at 10.30am.

Tuesday: Holy Communion at 10am.

There will be Evensong on June 28 at 6 pm.

There is a fete at Manor Farm on Saturday, in aid of church funds.

ANNUAL event being held on Saturday at Manor Farm in the Main Street on Saturday from 2pm-4.30pm. Many stalls and competitions to enjoy plus Rackham School Maypole Dancers and Morris Dancers.
